Thank you to Orla P (Year 11 Head Student) who represented the school at a media event to object to the Urban Quarry earlier in the week. This was a really significant moment for the campaign and she spoke so eloquently – We are really proud of you. We were also pleased that the letters written by the School Council and Eco Committee made it into the Southern Daily Echo – Well done to all the students involved. Theme of the Week: Rewards Assemblies

Next week we will be celebrating student achievements this half term in our year group Reward Assemblies. Students will be given certificates and prizes for academic and pastoral success. In tutor time (Years 7-10) students will be focusing on how we achieve success and aim high. Year 9 will also have a session looking at target setting following the publication of their progress data. Year 11 will continue to focus on revision as their Mock Exams start after half term.

Children’s Mental Health Week

Next week is Children’s Mental Health Week. We have sent a useful resource to parents / carers with the Weekly Message. For students we would recommend Shout (in partnership with Place2Be) – Text CONNECT to 85258. This is a free 24 hour help line for anyone struggling to cope – Find out more here.

Safer Internet Day – Tuesday 07 February 2023

Safer Internet day is on Tuesday 07 February 2023 and the theme this year is ‘Want to talk about it?’ Mr Eason presented assemblies focused on staying safe online last week in assembly, but we thought parents/ carers would be interested in some of these short videos from the Hampshire and IOW Constabulary Youtube Channel:

Year 8 Trip to Winchester Science Centre – Monday 06 February 2023

A few reminders for Monday’s trip:

  • We will be leaving school at 9:15am by coach and arriving back by 2:30pm
  • Students are required to be in full school uniform
  • Students will be told their groupings on the morning of the trip
  • Any Year 8s not attending the trip, will be completing a separate project in Science.

The local community

Sometimes we unfortunately receive emails from our neighbours and the local community to inform us that students in Hamble uniform are not behaving appropriately when travelling to or from school. Please can we ask you to remind your children about their role in the community and how we should all respect each other and our environment.

This week we were contacted by a member of the public who saw children dropping litter in Priors Copse – Not only does this not look nice, but it also has a very damaging impact on the wildlife and ecosystem. We do have staff on duty before/ after school around the local area and our behaviour policy clearly states that students can be sanctioned whilst in school uniform.

We love it when members of the community email to tell us how wonderful our students have been – Please work together with us to ensure we only receive positive contact from our neighbours.

National Apprenticeships Week 2022

National Apprenticeship Week 2023 is the 16th annual week-long celebration of apprenticeships.

The week brings together businesses and apprentices across the country to shine a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships make to individuals, businesses and the wider economy.

The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2023 is ‘Skills for Life’; reflecting on how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and businesses to develop a talented workforce that is equipped with future-ready skills.

At The Hamble School, approximately 5% of our Year 11s take up an apprenticeship on leaving school.

Over the week there will be over 1200 live events taking place across the country. Information about these events can be found here:
